In the city center, at Debreceni Street 2, stands the two-story Semsey Castle, built in the classicist style. In 1798, after the death of the Andrássy family, Ferenc I donated the area to Semsey András, who built the castle that still stands today. The work had already begun at that time with the building materials accumulated by the Andrássy family, as they wanted to build a new representative residence. From a later official letter we know that András Semsey had already prepared the new castle and the several hectare castle garden connected to it by 1805. There is no information about the architectural style of this phase of the building. The architectural plans and documents related to the construction have not survived, but it is likely that late Baroque features dominated it. It acquired its current late Classicist style during the reconstruction around 1840, which was completed in the 19th century. They were used continuously until the end of the 19th century.
